Air Conditioner Emergencies We See Most
Some repairs can wait a few days. Others need to be addressed as soon as possible. These are the situations where we typically get called in for emergency service.
Complete Loss of Cooling During High Heat
The thermostat is set, the unit is running, but nothing cool is coming out of the vents. Sometimes the system doesn’t respond at all. This often points to a failed capacitor or contactor, or a refrigerant issue. These parts wear out with use, and they tend to give out at the worst possible time.
In these situations, we check the electrical system, inspect refrigerant levels, and test the compressor. If a part needs to be replaced, we can usually take care of it during the visit.
Water Pooling Around the Indoor Unit
Water leaks around your air handler usually mean the drain line is clogged or the evaporator coil is frozen. It’s not always dramatic at first. You might just notice a damp odor or some discoloration near the base of the unit.
We’ll clear the drain, inspect the coil, and look for signs of overflow or backup. We also check nearby surfaces for early signs of water damage.
System Turning On, Then Shutting Off Too Soon
This kind of rapid cycling often points to an electrical problem or a malfunctioning thermostat. Sometimes it’s a sensor inside the unit that’s misreading the air temperature. Other times, a wiring issue causes the system to shut down before it finishes a cycle.
We start by isolating the component that’s causing the short cycle. Then we test and replace as necessary.
